Overview

In this newly created role, the Executive Director, Portfolio Strategy & PMO will be responsible for the development and leadership of a comprehensive portfolio management strategy for the product pipeline aligning it with the company’s overall business strategy for the individual assets and at the portfolio-level. The role will also be responsible for leading the PMO and ensuring the successful execution of projects aligned with the organization's strategic goals. This role involves setting up and maintaining PMO standards, overseeing project governance, providing guidance to project managers, and ensuring effective communication and collaboration across different departments. The Head of PMO also plays a key role in resource planning, performance monitoring, and driving continuous improvement within the PMO.

Responsibilities

  • Development and leadership of a portfolio review process which will include development and management of the roadmap for key data and decision points (stage gates) and establishment of portfolio decision analysis criteria and capabilities to enable the organization to make informed strategic choices
  • Define and implement the PMO's strategic direction, ensuring it aligns with the overall business strategy and objectives
  • Establish and implement project management methodologies, standards, and best practices
  • Engage with stakeholders at different levels, providing regular updates and addressing concerns
  • Ensure clear and consistent communication across all program stakeholders, providing regular reports on program status and performance and tailoring this as needed for the organisation, executive committee and board 
  • Identify and lead the team to drive implementation of opportunities to improve PMO processes and project management practices, promoting a culture of continuous learning and development
  • Identify and mitigate project risks, working with program teams to develop appropriate risk management processes and plans
  • Oversee the implementation of change initiatives, ensuring minimal disruption to ongoing operations 
  • Partner with finance on budgeting and long-range planning processes to ensure strong alignment between program and financial planning
  • Partner with Business Development to support licensing and integration initiatives
  • Drive teams to meet or exceed goals by providing superior global cross-functional leadership and management in a matrix organization, driving decision-making, facilitating issue resolution, problem-solving, risk management and contingency planning
Position Requirements (Required and/or Preferred Skills, Experience and Education):
  • BA/BS in Business, Marketing, General Management, Biotechnology, or related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of commercial experience in one or more of the following functions within the biopharmaceutical/pharmaceutical, biotechnology or life sciences consulting industries: marketing, product launches, strategy, commercial operations, or related function.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification a plus but not required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence without authority, motivate with enthusiasm and develop productive working relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Entrepreneurial, self-starter with a proven track record of success in fast-paced and demanding environment and strong desire to “make things happen”, including a results-oriented work ethic and a positive, can-do attitude.
  • Must be a team player with the highest of personal values and ethical standards.
  • Must have excellent leadership skills; should be an effective team leader with a track record of successfully developing and upskilling team members and a proven ability to motivate teams and drive performance excellence
  • Ability to take hands-on, “roll up your sleeves” approach toward achieving business results.
  • Ability to quickly gain credibility and confidence with all levels within the company.
  • Proficient in English
  • Highly organized with a strong attention to detail, clarity, accuracy and concisenes

Salary Range

$239,000 - $334,333 a year
