Overview

The Senior Director, Global Medical Training Portfolio Strategy will provide strategic leadership to the Global Medical Training team driving the vision and mission of the group. This role will be responsible for developing the strategic training plan and material creation for assigned therapeutic areas/products and ensuring training needs are met across the regions from a scientific and skill perspective. This will be a highly strategic role that will require strong team leadership and close collaboration across all Regions as well as with the Global Medical Strategy & Communications team, HEOR, Medical Information, and Field Medical Excellence. The Senior Director, Global Medical Training Portfolio Strategy will have subject matter expertise in training and assigned disease states/products.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership – Deliver strategic leadership for the Global Medical Training (GMT) team driving the mission and vision of the group.  Ensure clarity in goals, objectives, and expectations for GMT.  Enable effective decision making and prioritization. Coach and develop team members. Proactively plan for the future to ensure readiness and effectiveness of the team.
  • Strategy Development – Create annual and updated quarterly (at a minimum) training plans for Medical Affairs in line with Brand Planning for assigned disease states/products.  Represent GMT at medical affairs team (MAT) meetings for assigned brands.  Ensure strategic alignment with Medical Strategy & Communications, HEOR, and Field Medical on tools and associated training sessions.  Create key messages and pivot statements for new data aligned with Medical Strategy.
  • Operational Excellence – Develop annual budget for GMT in alignment with the Regions.  Responsible for budget tracking and optimization.  Ensure appropriate resource allocation to meet business needs.
  • Medical Training Materials & Onboarding – Develop therapeutic area onboarding plan and materials in collaboration with Medical Strategy, Scientific Communications, HEOR, Medical Information, and Regional GMT leads.  Develop effective training materials aligned to the annual/quarterly training plans that support adult learning. Seek input from end users on materials and update as needed.
  • Training Sessions – Lead GMA wide training sessions on key data, competitors, etc.  Ensure learning objectives, clarity on how the training fits the overall narrative, and appropriate utilization of the data are included.
  • Metrics - Track and report on training effectiveness, completion rates, and impact metrics 
  • Cross-functional Alignment - Partner across the full Global Medical Training team to ensure consistency worldwide, Regional needs are met, and skill integration is built into plans.  Ensure close collaboration with Field Medical Leadership, Medical Directors, Scientific Communications, Field Medical Excellence, Clinical Development and Commercial Effectiveness to deliver high quality, strategic training plans.  Partner with legal/compliance to ensure appropriateness of all materials.
  • Customer-Focused – Expectation to spend time in the field understanding customer and MSL/MOL needs and translating to training opportunities
Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Advanced degree required (PharmD, PhD, MD, NP-C )
  • 10+ years of Medical Affairs experience required including minimum of 7+ years of training experience
  • Direct experience within Field Medical beneficial (at least 3 years)
  • Deep expertise in adult learning methodologies and training development required
  • Advanced leadership skills with minimum of 5-7 years of people leadership experience
  • Global mindset with understanding of US, European, and Japanese markets
  • Ability to become a subject matter expert in assigned therapeutic areas and products required
  • Forward looking with continuous process improvement mentality
  • Strong strategic thinking with ability to connect multiple components
  • Strong leadership presence and ability to present and engage across the organization
  • Ability to influence decision making
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to build effective relationships with internal partners
  • Enables creative problem solving, encourages unique solutions, and effectively solves challenges problems
  • Proven track record working in a global environment across multiple international markets
  • Strong understanding of regional healthcare systems and compliance environments
  • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills
  • Fluency in English required,
  • Ability to translate complex scientific information into engaging training content 
  • Flexible approach to changing priorities and business needs 

Travel Requirements

Up to 30% travel domestically and internationally

 

This position will be onsite/hybrid (strongly preferred)

Salary Range

$215,000 - $301,000 a year
