Overview

The Medical Director, Gene Therapy will develop and implement Medical Affairs strategy for gene therapy portfolio products across all geographic regions ensuring a cohesive approach. This role will be responsible for all Medical Affairs activities, ensuring partnership within the team (medical strategy, scientific communications and publications) all key Medical Affairs functions (Medical Excellence, HEOR, Field Medical, Medical Information) as well as maintaining a high-level of cross-functional collaboration across the organization to ensure alignment and “One Insmed” approach.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and craft the medical strategy for entry into gene therapy across indications ​ensuring proper alignment across functions and with the overall company strategy. 
  • Develop and implement Medical Affairs plans​ to ensure that strategy is reflected in medical plans and that these deliver on critical identified landmarks in launch planning.
  • Provide medical leadership input for cross functional partners including Clinical, Operations, HEOR, and Commercial ​to ensure that there is a strong medical voice represented.
  • Build external relationship network across therapy areas to support trial enrollment, launch preparation and gain advice. ​
  • Develop data generation strategy, including gap analysis, to evolve product data generation plans and ensure there is “OneMedical” strategy. ​
  • Review publications, help create medical backgrounders, FAQ and standard responses, and develop internal training approach​.
  • Propose future Medical Affairs team to support programs as they progress.
  • Develop full thought leader engagement strategic approach and ensuing plan
  • Partner with Medical Strategy, Regions, and Finance to plan and manage annual budget for medical activities.
  • Ensure a comprehensive and harmonious approach by collaborating across Medical Affairs, Regions, and other functions including Commercial and Development.  Drive a One Insmed and Franchise approach to gene therapy.
  • Partner with key collaborators to identify and integrate innovative ideas and standard methodologies into strategies, plans, and activities.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable Insmed policies.
Position Requirements:
  • MD degree is strongly preferred or PhD with previous leadership position in Medical Affairs with 6+ years’ experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Medical Affairs and understanding of launch planning required.
  • Previous experience in Gene Therapies of Biologics required. 
  • Experience in neurological or retinal therapies highly preferred.
  • Global experience or experience in multiple regions is an advantage.
  • Individual will need to be comfortable in the “gray” and to be able to work fast and develop innovative ways of working.
  • Ability to work independently and comfortable to serve as the MA representative at various meetings. ​
  • Ability to operate seamlessly in a Matrixed organization​.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple partners and functions.
  • Proven track record of leading process and operational excellence and developing planning standards.
  • Strong strategic problem solver with high attention to detail and the ability to connect multiple components.
  • Proven track record of effectively inspiring change.
  • Strong communication skills (written, verbal).
  • Enables creative problem solving, encourages unique solutions, and optimally solves challenging problems.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally (25%).
