Overview

Insmed is seeking a Patent Prosecution Paralegal, to support Insmed’s IP team in the management of its global patent portfolio. The Patent Prosecution Paralegal will demonstrate comprehensive knowledge and an understanding of U.S. and international patent law procedures to prepare U.S. and PCT filings, review daily docket and deadlines, manage internal files and records, draft related correspondences to outside counsel. This position will also be responsible for coordinating invention disclosure submission with business partners, generating summary tables as assigned, assisting in assembling patent due diligence materials, reviewing and processing invoices and managing annuity payments. Preferred location: close to either Bridgewater NJ or San Diego Cali however we will consider remote candidates.

Responsibilities

Additional representative responsibilities may include, but not necessarily be limited to, the following:
  • Process all incoming mail daily, including, but not limited, to patent related correspondence from the United States Patent and Trademark Office, Outside counsel, International Agents, and Inter-Office communications among attorneys and research teams.
  • Coordinating U.S. and international patent application filing procedures with Insmed patent team and outside counsel.
  • Preparing and filing new U.S. and national stage applications, PCT applications, and responses in the USPTO.
  • Monitoring and updating information on all global patent cases in the IP Docket Database in relation to client communications, government notifications, and international agent correspondence.
  • Conducting periodic status checks and participate in docket audits using government websites and communication to International Agents and outside counsel.
  • Generating various reports as requested on an as needed basis.
  • Maintaining current knowledge of IP rules and procedures, both domestic and international.
  • Assisting the accounting department with the reconciliation of invoices and USPTO deposit account.
  • Performing factual research on third parties and other topics as directed.
  • Updating competitive intelligence tables with up-to-date claim sets and application status by searching USPTO and EPO databases on a monthly basis.
  • Experience with Word, Excel, and Outlook, as well as solid internet research capabilities.
  • Proficiency and previous experience with IP Docketing Systems.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and complete tasks with strong attention to detail and adhering to the firm’s best practices.
  • Intake and docketing of invention disclosure forms, coordinating meetings between the R&D and patent teams to effectuate the flow of information and filing of patent applications based on forms.
  • Opportunity to take on contracts and projects in areas other than patents.
About You:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; college degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience at a law firm or in pharma / biotech industry.
  • Biotech / pharma industry experience desired.
  • Paralegal Certificate preferred.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills required to interact with lawyers and staff.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a varied audience, including all levels of Company business partners, vendors, and other outside interested parties.
