About the Role!


  • This position reports directly to the Assistant Principal Scientist – Discovery Formulations.
  • This is a non-supervisory position.

The candidate will work with a multidisciplinary team of scientists focused on the discovery, formulation development, and, characterization of novel drug candidates to treat rare lung diseases. Specifically, the candidate will assist with medicinal chemistry efforts including chemical synthesis, purification, and characterization of small molecule drug targets.


  • Conduct chemical synthesis, purification, and characterization of small molecule drug targets under the direction of a supervising scientist in Insmed’s research labs
  • Plan and execute assigned experiments, with increasing independence, in support of project goals
  • Execute chemical reactions and make observations during reaction, work-up and product isolation.
  • Maintain clear and accurate records of experimental procedures and results
  • Assist in the routine calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment
  • Present scientific results to the research group
  • Attend and contribute to project meetings


About you!



  • BS in Chemistry and 3+ years of synthetic chemistry related industrial experience OR MS in Chemistry and 0+ years of industry experience (Organic Chemistry Focus)

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Hands-on experience with synthetic organic chemistry
  • Knowledge of medicinal chemistry techniques and principals
  • Understanding of structural determination using NMR and Mass Spectral techniques
  • Knowledge of purification methods
  • Experience with routine compound characterization methods included NMR, HPLC, and MS
  • Demonstration of good lab practices, with particular attention to safety
  • Demonstrated ability to scout, develop, scale-up, and troubleshoot synthetic routes


  • Must have excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Highly organized with a strong attention to detail, clarity, accuracy and conciseness.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, ChemDraw, and Reaxys
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail
  • Knowledge of scientific principles and concepts

Travel Requirements:

  • Less than 10% travel
